Hydrologic Mapping and Data Access Workshop

Objectives

This workshop is designed to provide a structured, end-to-end workflow for acquiring, processing, and preparing hydrologic and hydraulic datasets for use in FLO-2D modeling. The focus is on transforming publicly available geospatial data into technically defensible, model-ready inputs suitable for floodplain mapping, stormwater analysis, and watershed-scale studies.

Participants will gain practical experience connecting to online data services, processing elevation and land surface datasets, developing rainfall inputs, and generating infiltration and roughness parameters consistent with engineering standards. Emphasis is placed on reproducible methods, proper coordinate management, and maintaining data integrity throughout the workflow.

Participants will:

  • Connect to online databases and download hydrologic data.

  • Transform raw datasets into ready-to-use inputs for FLO-2D modeling.

  • Process Manning’s n values and infiltration parameters (Green-Ampt, and SCS).

  • Access new rainfall mapping tools, including ERA5 reanalysis, NEXRAD, and gridded precipitation datasets.

  • Practice workflows for floodplain and stormwater projects.
